Activity Highlights

2015-2016 Accomplishments

  • Registered Voters.
  • Spoke at the Brevard legislative meeting prior to the opening session of the Florida Legislature.
  • Circulated Solar Choice petitions and arranged a tour of the Florida Solar Energy Institute in Cocoa.
  • Met with all of Brevard County state legislators to explain our positions including Medicaid expansion which remains on our agenda.
  • Monitored Charter Review Commission which meets once every 6 years.
  • Endorsed with our State League the Anti-Corruption Bill that was passed and signed by the governor.
  • Held a candidate forum for Cape Canaveral elections.
  • Monitored elections for Launch Federal Credit Union Board Members.
  • Educated the community on education results, foster care, child safety, human trafficking and increased awareness about children in our community without medical insurance.
  • Held meetings for the public to learn and study international relations subjects.
  • Sponsored an Annual School Recycling Awards Program to instill in students an appreciation for the environment and an awareness of the need to conserve natural resources.
  • Recognized activism and civic impact in our community by honoring "Women of Action".
  • Promoted stricter fertilizer ordinances throughout Brevard County.
  • Continued to distribute 2015-2016 CONTACT, Directory of Elected Officials throughout the county.
  • Worked with many organizations in Brevard County to provide to the community information on a variety of subjects.
  • We joined the Space Coast League of Cities and attend their meetings.
  • We worked with the environmental community on Save Florida rally held last May in support of fully funding Amendment 1.
  • We partnered with Florida Today, LEAD Brevard, and the National Conference of Black Women in welcoming the new Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Desmond Blackburn.
  • Arranged speaking engagements at churches, colleges and other facilities for presentations by our Speakers Bureau to encourage active participation and an understanding of our mission of good government and informed voters.
  • Monitored Port activity and the newly appointed CEO after having a Timely Topic on the Canaveral Port/Rail extension.
  • Partnered with other organizations to congratulate Thad Altman on his support of Amendment 1.
  • Approved a contribution to the Save the Lagoon Coalition and continue to monitor this issue.
  • Supported the court challenge by the State League for Fair Districts and we are so pleased with this success.
